Oven mitts are still an absolute favorite toy. They are extremely versatile—you can tug on them, wrestle with them, hide treats in them, or hold them in your mouth and pull the seams apart! I try to discourage this last pastime, but if I leave an oven mitt lying around on the floor I know to expect to find bits of fluff and stuffing everywhere in a couple of hours. Prada has a hard time telling “my” oven mitt and “kitchen” oven mitt apart so I have to keep the kitchen oven mitts hung on hooks waaaaaaay up high, otherwise she snatches them off countertops.
In other news...the yip yesterday was a good yip indeed! Prada has taken to seeking me out if I leave her for a few minutes without giving the 'rest' command, and she shows a considerably increased amount of enthusiasm when I get her up in the morning or let her out of her crate post vacuuming. She is much more responsive when I call her and likes to follow me around when I let her off-leash. Am I still keeping her on leash most of the time? Yes. Normally a dog guide would be permitted off-leash in the house by now but due to my mistake in the beginning and continued, though decreasing, fixation on my mother I decided to keep her close to me for a bit longer. I'm thinking I don’t leave her off-leash all day until probably the 3rd or 4th week that I'm at school. I don't want to take any chances or repeat my error of overconfidence from when I first brought her home. There's just too much at stake.
The weather here's been in triple digits or the high 90's for the past half week or so. Fortunately Prada's insulation system, the double coat and panting mechanism, continue to amaze me. She's got just as much energy walking around Salem in 90 degrees as she does in 70. For my sake and that of anyone who accompanies me I usually try to get out earlier in the morning or after 8pm at night so it's a bit cooler, but there really isn't too much difference, except that after 8pm there's a lot more shade.
